The exchange of screenwriting, production and directing practices is again the focus of the NEM Zagreb workshop at VERN' this year.

Our art students also attended the workshops and the central event.

VERN' University hosted a three-day NEM Zagreb workshop this December.

Discussions, workshops, creative deliberations and polemics on the topic of FTA and pay-TV channels, streaming, production, directing and production houses and agencies were just a prelude to the central NEM event - NEM Zagreb 2023 - which was held at the Esplanade Zagreb Hotel.

As part of the long-standing cooperation between VERN' University and NEM, our students were also given the opportunity to participate in this year's workshop and contest, who will integrate the acquired knowledge and acquaintances into their academic and career development: Krešimir Hunjadi, Iva Sokačić, Lukas Lukačević, Iva Jauk, Jakov Pacadi, Petra Popović, Lara Odra Stojčević, Luka Lipert, Leona Wright and Nika Ivanić.

"NEM Zagreb started with a two-day screenwriting workshop where we had the opportunity to analyze well-known characters from acclaimed films, delved into the core of their character, discussed screenwriting decisions within dialogue scenes, and how to write a good and interesting story. We listened to all the lectures and panels and really learned a lot from various guest lecturers. We met new people in the industry and exchanged useful advice with fellow screenwriters. The atmosphere was excellent, and the lectures provided a deeper insight into the creation of TV series and films in countries with lower production capacities in Central and Eastern Europe. NEM Zagreb gave us the opportunity to expand our network, gain new knowledge and inspiration. We warmly hope for future cooperation within the CEE region," emphasized students Jakov Pacadi and Petra Popović from the 2nd year of the undergraduate study Film, TV and Multimedia Design .

Leona Wright, a 3rd year undergraduate student in Transmedia Dramaturgy, participated in the competitive part of this year's NEM Zagreb, in the "Scripted series" category.

"I was supposed to write an outline idea for a TV series with an accompanying synopsis and treatment in English, but since there was little time to submit the papers, I was not surprised that I did not make it to the next round. However, I received accreditation, which allowed me to attend workshops, panels and pitches from people from the film industry. This is my first year applying for something like this, and I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised. I went into it without expectations, and I was delighted. Those three days I had the opportunity to the opportunities to attend were truly inspiring. I saw so many successful and creative people in one place who spoke in a very intelligent way about the industry and the ways in which it develops. I received a lot of valuable knowledge that I will remember for a long time. After the conference, I also received feedback about my idea in which they gave me valuable advice and how I can develop my idea further," said Leona.
