This Wednesday , April 2, 2025, starting at 11:00 a.m., the Croatian State Archives will host
Ceremonial session of the Senate of VERN' University
and on that occasion
awarding of an honorary doctorate from VERN' University ,
which will be awarded, based on the decision of the Senate,
Prof. Dr. Sc. Mate Granić .
VERN' University, as the first private higher education institution in the Republic of Croatia, was founded in 2000 in Zagreb. Since then, Prof. Dr. Sc. Mate Granić has actively participated in several domestic and international conferences of the University, and the cooperation intensified with the establishment of the College of Journalism, of which Prof. Dr. Sc. Granić was the first dean, and which was merged with VERN' in 2011. From then until 2016, Prof. Dr. Sc. Mate Granić was an advisor to the VERN' Board. Of course, in addition to his contribution to VERN', Prof. Dr. Sc. Granić's role in the science and higher education system of the Republic of Croatia through his medical profession is of great importance, and his irreplaceable contribution as the longest-serving Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Croatia during the 1990s, during the time of the creation, defense and international affirmation of the Republic of Croatia, is widely known. Thus, Mr. Granić, among other things, was Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy President of the Crisis Staff of the Government of the Republic of Croatia. Along with the United States of America, he is most responsible for stopping the war between Croats and Bosniaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina and signing the Washington and later the Dayton Agreements. It is for this reason that the Senate of VERN' University decided to award Mr. Granić an honorary doctorate.
This will make him the second honorary doctoral candidate of VERN' University, since the first one was awarded in 2023 to Mrs. Dr. hc mult. Doris Pack.
The event will be attended by current and former high-ranking state officials , members of the Croatian Parliament , professors of VERN' University , and representatives of the academic and business community and the medical profession , who are significantly involved in the successful medical, academic, political and business careers of the laureates.
