What are the risks of the further development of artificial intelligence (AI)? Are concerns about the impact of artificial intelligence on the democratic order justified?
These and other relevant issues were discussed by students of VERN's undergraduate studies in Internet of Things and Public Relations at a guest lecture "Challenges and Risks of Artificial Intelligence", held by security expert and President of the Board of Effectus Polytechnic, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sc. Robert Kopal .
The guest lecture was held as part of the course Public Opinion Research , taught by VERN's lecturer , Assoc. Prof. Krešimir Žnidar , PhD, and the students actively debated with the guest a number of pressing topics in artificial intelligence, including definitions of AI, regulations, and the concept of dual use.

In addition, the relationship between the accuracy of algorithms and fairness, the role of AI in education, the controversial idea of whether to slow down or stop the progress of artificial intelligence, the impact of AI on information disruption, democracy and warfare, including the perspectives of distinguished scientists such as Tegmark and Harari on the ethical challenges posed by AI, were discussed.

The lecture concluded with reflections on overseeing AI systems to make them safe, transparent, accountable, non-discriminatory, ethical, and environmentally sustainable.
