The annual award is presented to artists for the best artistic works that have been published, exhibited, shown or performed during the past year.

Respected Croatian director and documentarian and VERN's lecturer , Assoc. Prof. Nebojša Slijepčević, received the annual "Vladimir Nazor" award for the award-winning short film "The Man Who Couldn't Keep Silent", which was presented to him at a ceremony at the Croatian National Theatre.
Colleague Slijepčević won the annual award in the category of film art, a subcategory of the annual award , since it is also awarded as a lifetime achievement award.
This is the highest award awarded by the Republic of Croatia every year for the best artistic achievements in the fields of literature, music, film, fine and applied arts, theatre, architecture and urban planning, and the annual award is given to artists for the best artistic achievements that were published, exhibited, shown or performed during the previous year, as well as to a group of artists for collective artistic achievements in the Republic of Croatia.
