Our students competed with the idea of creating an application for maintaining employee satisfaction called "Happiness Maintenance".
VERN' Polytechnic students Sanja Mihaljević , Andrea Ožegović , Ivana Trušček Prenkpalaj and Iva Žmegač placed among the TOP5 best European teams in hotel management at the "9th European Mise en Place Cup" (EMCUP 2017), which was held on February 12th and 13th in Maastricht, the Netherlands.
In the competition for developing their own business ideas and visions, in the segment of real hotel business, students from Croatia placed themselves in a select group of reputable European faculties such as the Austrian FH Wien, the Belgian VIVES University College, the Swiss SHL – Schweizerishe Hotelfachschule Luzern, but also ahead of institutions with a much greater tradition such as Les Roches Global Hospitality Education, Westminster Kingsway College, TIO University of Applied Sciences and many others.
In a fierce international competition of teams from as many as 32 of the best European faculties offering hotel management studies, from 14 different countries, students of VERN's specialist graduate study in Sustainable Tourism Development Management competed with the idea of creating an application for maintaining employee satisfaction "Happiness Maintenance " , and in the end they placed in an excellent 5th place .
Since the competition is held according to the "I-do-dare-students" principle and requires competitors to stand out for their courage and entrepreneurial instinct, as well as their focus on achieving goals, students had to go through several different thematic levels in developing their own ideas, such as preparing competition tasks, creating a story and brand awareness, writing essays, a business simulation of hotel management, making a promotional film, networking, a competition pitch, solving business cases, debates, etc.
The EMCup competition has been held since 2009, and the goal of the competition is to create and build long-term relationships and connections between international hotel brands and educational institutions, which will be a platform for connecting young professionals from the hotel industry.
