Our lecturer was awarded for the documentary show she produced together with sound master Srđan Nogić and editor Nikica Klobučar.

On World Press Freedom Day, May 3, the Croatian Journalists' Association (HND) awarded the best journalistic works in 2024, in ten categories.
The "Marija Jurić-Zagorka" Award for Radio Journalism for 2024 was won by the Croatian Radio Drama Program show "Cause of Death: The Border" , authored by journalist Barbara Matejčić , also a lecturer at VERN's undergraduate Journalism study program .
Along with our colleague, the show was produced by sound engineer Srđan Nogić and editor Nikica Klobučar .
When accepting the award, Barbara Matejčić emphasized that she dedicates the award to and shares it with others, mostly women with whom she went on field trips in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Morocco.
"They, just like me, cannot and do not want to agree to violence becoming normal," emphasized Matejčić, who teaches the courses Investigative Journalism and Complex Journalistic Forms at VERN.
This documentary radio drama takes us along the so-called Balkan Route, following the footsteps of those who died trying to gain protection in the European Union. In the 1990s, these were people fleeing wars in the former Yugoslavia, and today they are refugees from non-European continents.
