According to World Bank estimates, creative industries generate 7 percent of global GDP and employ almost 30 million people. Data for Croatia also indicate the growing importance of this economic sector for the overall economy, with 12 sub-sectors generating significant profits in an environment that offers numerous potentials for the development of technological, film, theater, creative and tourism projects.
Starting from the winter semester of the next academic year, VERN' Polytechnic will begin offering a new specialist graduate study program "Film and Television Directing and Production" , which was created precisely because of the perceived need for experts with specialist knowledge and skills in the production niche, and due to the insufficient offer of comprehensive specialist study programs on the Croatian market, and in the context of growing opportunities for professional development offered in the creative industries sector.
This new study program combines directing and producing knowledge and skills in a way that ensures quality practice in both directing and producing, with the prerequisites necessary for insight into the whole. This ensures the integrative nature of the positions of director (who is responsible for the creative aspect of an audiovisual work) and producer (who ensures the conditions for the production of an audiovisual work in all phases), which allows graduates of this study program to work in a wide area and abounds in opportunities for (self-)employment. After completing the study program, students will be able to perform jobs in the sectors of directing and producing audiovisual works, with an emphasis on directing and producing, by unifying knowledge from these areas while ensuring all the elements necessary for a comprehensive understanding and implementation of the process of creating a film and television work.
The new specialist graduate study program complements and thematically continues the undergraduate professional study program "Film, Television and Multimedia Design", and with these two studies, VERN' comprehensively unites the educational vertical in the field of creative industries.
