Our lecturer Marija Slijepčević presented at the FER about the challenges of management in the media

VERN's Assistant Dean and lecturer Marija Slijepčević held a guest lecture at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, on the topic "Management Challenges in the Media Industry".

At the invitation of the Engineering Management Department and the Women in Engineering Interest Group of the Croatian Section of the IEEE, assistant dean of VERN and lecturer Marija Slijepčević held a guest lecture on "Challenges of management in the media industry" at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb.

The lecture was attended by representatives of the FER academic community, to whom our lecturer explained the role of management in media outlets and its specificities. In her presentation, she also touched on the methods of human resources management, the consequences of applying management to creative media practice, and theories of excellence in media management. She also pointed out that management in the media is supported by certain facts in the segment of marketing and human resources management, which we generally do not see in other business organizations.

The emphasis of the lecture was on the relationship between technological developments and adjustments in the media industry, given that since the 1980s, literally every aspect of the media business has been changed by new technologies and audience fragmentation.

"Companies in a turbulent, uncertain environment tend to be more innovative, proactive, and willing to take risks. Online companies and multimedia companies will be more proactive in adapting innovations due to their market: younger consumers and less stable/proven audience preferences, lower entry barriers, and a high degree of direct competition," explained lecturer Slijepčević.
