The panel was held as part of the three-day conference "Communication & Media Days Split 2025".
VERN's professor of media and communication courses, Assoc. Ph.D. Marija Slijepčević participated in a panel discussion entitled "Truth on the test: How to defend against the deepfake threat?" which was held as part of the "Communication & Media Days Split 2025" conference.
Uz kolegicu Slijepčević koja je ujedno i voditeljica fact-checking servisa TurFacto, u diskusiji su sudjelovali i predstavnici visokih učilišta i organizacija civilnog društva koje također, kao i Sveučilište VERN’, razvijaju nišne fact-checking servise: dr. sc. Tomislav Levak sa Sveučilišta J. J. Strossmayer iz Osijeka (VerifEye), Josip Šipić iz Centra za edukaciju savjetovanje i istraživanje (GenderFacts), dr. sc. Danira Matijaca sa Sveučilišta u Splitu (MedLitmus) i Tereza Buconić sa Sveučilišta u Dubrovniku (DU Check).
Interestingly, the discussion was moderated by VERN's graduate and founder of the PR agency Vrh komunikacije, Luka Šipić .
Participants discussed the topic from the perspective of dealing with deepfake information and the demands this trend places on modern society. They emphasized that the key role in combating and correcting such information lies with the media, as well as educational institutions that must work to spread media literacy and critical thinking.
Presentations of fact-checking services were also held as part of the program, so Assoc. Ph.D. Marija Slijepčević presented VERN's fact-checking service TurFacto for checking media facts in the tourism sector, which we are developing in partnership with the Croatian Association of Digital Publishers.
Konferencija „Communication & Media Days Split 2025“, u čijem je programskom odboru također VERN’ova profesorica doc. dr. sc. Tamara Kunić, od 5. do 7. lipnja će okupiti brojne predstavnike akademske i poslovne zajednice te stručne javnosti i studenata koji će kroz predavanja, radionice i panele diskutirati o sve zahtjevnijoj ulozi medija i obrazovnih institucija u borbi protiv lažnih vijesti.
