Panel of experts

Experienced PR professionals and journalists imparted useful knowledge to students for more successful mutual cooperation

In addition to the usual questions for discussion, some "hot topics" about cooperation between journalists and PR professionals were also discussed.

VERN's second-year undergraduate students in Public Relations and Journalism were visited by media and communications experts who shared their own experiences and gave the students useful tips on the topic of "cooperation between journalists and PR professionals" .

The aim of the discussion was to introduce students to what awaits them on a business trip one day and what they can expect from the cooperation between journalists and PR professionals and vice versa. The discussion, moderated by Professor Dr. sc. Marija Slijepčević, featured the following guests: Maja Marković from the Central Bureau of Statistics, Luka Lajić from The Galerija agency and a VERN' graduate, Tea Romić from Grizli komunikacija and a former journalist from Večernji list, Ksenija Puškarić from the business weekly Lider, Silvia Pokrajac from Net.hr and Sven Tubak from Mediaservis, also a VERN' graduate.

The dynamics of the panel were certainly defined by two-way communication with students, but also by the so-called "hot topics" about the mutual cooperation between these two sectors, or what each thinks about the other, which naturally arise as part of such a discussion:

  • Do you think that PR people do not know enough about the media industry and production processes?
  • How do you see the development of journalism in Croatia and the development of relations between the media and PR?
  • Is public relations "just promotion that only pretends to offer news"?
  • how often does a PR person offer a good story, suitable for a specific medium (exclusive)
  • Do journalists know how to ask the "right" questions?
  • whether public relations specialists in organizations are a reliable source for journalists
  • What do you think about journalists who have "moved" into public relations?
  • whose job is more stressful and other intrigues.

We believe that experience, knowledge, and well-intentioned recommendations will help students in their further academic and business profiling.
