About the studio
The Film and Television Directing and Production study program combines directing and producing knowledge and skills in a way that ensures quality work in both directing and production. This ensures the integrative position of the director (who is responsible for the creative aspect of an audiovisual work) and the producer (who ensures the conditions for the production of an audiovisual work in all phases), which enables graduates of this study program to work in the creative industry, which offers numerous opportunities for (self-)employment.
Students who complete this program will be trained for independent creation in an area that combines the creation of various AV content and creative expression / direction in film and television media, as well as on new platforms, and for securing the financial and material conditions and resources necessary for the realization and exploitation of AV works / coordinating the work of authors, co-authors and all other collaborators in the development, production and exploitation of AV works, as well as in copyright management.

Study admission requirements
Students who have completed a professional or university undergraduate degree (180 ECTS) with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher are eligible to enroll in the first year of study. Exceptionally, students with a grade point average of 3.0 may also apply for the study program with two recommendations from their professors or employers.
As proof of entry competencies (audiovisual literacy, knowledge of basic film and television content and basic media concepts, basic knowledge and skills in film production, mastery of the tools necessary for the production of audiovisual content), candidates must submit their previous works in the audiovisual field (at least one audiovisual work or a feature film script or production project) no later than 10 days before the placement test to the e-mail: razredbeni.ftrp@vern.hr .
In addition to the entrance exams, candidates must pass an entrance exam, which consists of writing an essay on a given topic and an oral part that is taken before an expert committee and which assesses the candidate's knowledge in the field of study. Enrollments
Enrollment procedure based on undergraduate grades and placement process
Start of registration:
Applications and enrollments for the study Film and television direction and production will be possible for the winter semester of the academic year 2026/2027. (October 2026).
Requirements for enrollment in studies:
- completed undergraduate studies of a minimum duration of 3 years or acquired 180 ECTS credits with a minimum grade point average of 3.0
- Candidates with a grade point average of less than 3.0 must submit two recommendations from their professors or employers upon admission.
Register your interest
In order to collect all necessary information for the enrollment process and further correspondence, interested candidates are required to register their interest via the VERN'a IT system.
Candidates will receive a username and password to access their EduNeta student portal during the non-binding application.
Registration method
1. Enrollment method (based on undergraduate grades and placement test)
For candidates of the graduate study program Film and Television Directing and Production:
After completing the application form, candidates are invited to submit an application work as proof of entry competencies (audiovisual literacy, knowledge of basic film and television content and basic media concepts, basic knowledge and skills in film production, mastery of the tools necessary for the production of audiovisual content), which is also a condition for taking the placement test. Candidates must submit their previous works in the audiovisual field (at least one - an audiovisual work, a feature film script or a production project) no later than 10 days before the placement test to the e-mail: razredbeni.ftrp@vern.hr . Candidates who meet this condition may take the placement test.
The next placement test will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, starting at 10 a.m.
The classification check consists of two parts:
The first part – writing an essay on the topic Director-producer's approach to the selected feature film (candidates are sent a list of 5 films they should watch and the essay is written on the example of one film chosen by the committee).
The second part is an oral exam taken before an expert committee and which assesses the candidate's knowledge in the field of expertise.

2. Evaluation as part of the placement test
For the graduate professional study program in Film and Television Directing and Production, the following evaluation conditions are prescribed as part of the placement test:

*The total points that a candidate achieves in the classification process are not the sum of the percentages for each criterion, but are calculated using an appropriate formula. Results of the placement test
The results of the tests are anonymous, and candidates will be notified of their results via the website under the appropriate code.

Completion of the enrollment process
The completion of the enrollment process takes place in the following steps:
- Payment of enrollment installment in the amount of EUR 350.00 - non-refundable installment, part of the tuition fee. The payment slip form is visible on the candidate's student portal under "Forms - Example of a completed payment slip".
- Submission of enrollment documents to the Student Office:

- Apply directing and producing knowledge and skills in different media
- Produce different forms of audiovisual content
- Develop innovative and aestheticized solutions in various artistic fields using contemporary and traditional models and techniques
- Connect the theoretical, dramaturgical, costuming, scenographic, tonal and performing elements of an audiovisual work into an authorial and performing whole
- Create an audiovisual project from the initial idea, script, through financing, filming, film design, and assembling and leading a film team
- Independently analyze the totality of constitutive elements of audiovisual expression in the context of a film and television project
- Develop scripts for films, series and other audiovisual concepts
- Independently make critical decisions related to the script, photography, lighting design, music, camera, set design, costumes, film mask
- Independently make decisions regarding the script, photography, lighting design, music, camera, set design, costumes, film mask and acting in a specific audiovisual work.
- Make decisions independently under pressure regarding budget, time and creative expression
- Plan and apply specific forms of financing of audiovisual works
- Apply new media concepts and tools in the design and placement of AV and multimedia content
- Review the basic concepts of copyright and intellectual property protection in the audiovisual field.
