About the studio
The specialist study of Management of Sustainable Tourism Development is designed so that, through its mandatory courses such as Strategic Management, Tourism Economics, Crisis Management and Project Management, it enables supplementing and deepening of the general managerial knowledge and skills required in tourism.
Courses such as Tourism Trends and Innovations, Management Design and Law in Tourism will introduce students to some new aspects of tourism management, while elective courses will enable them to specialize in the management of certain types of tourism characteristic of Croatia – nautical, rural, cultural, congress, ecotourism, wellness tourism. In the fourth semester, students complete a three-month professional internship, and through such a combination of theoretical and practical knowledge, they acquire various competencies that ultimately result in a comprehensive understanding of the tourism phenomenon.

Admission procedure based on undergraduate grades
Start of registration:
Za početak upisa potrebno je popuniti neobvezujuću elektronsku prijavu za studij(e) te odabrati željeni početak nastave (ožujak ili listopad).
Requirements for enrollment in studies:
- completed undergraduate studies of a minimum duration of 3 years or acquired 180 ECTS credits with a minimum grade point average of 3.0
- Candidates with a grade point average of less than 3.0 must submit two recommendations from their professors or employers upon admission.
Register your interest
In order to collect all necessary information for the enrollment process and further correspondence, interested candidates are required to register their interest via the VERN'a IT system.
Candidates will receive a username and password to access their EduNeta student portal during the non-binding application.
Registration method
1. Enrollment method (based on undergraduate grades)
For candidates of graduate studies: IT Management, Sustainable Tourism Development Management, Entrepreneurial Management, Accounting and Finance, Human Resources Management and Business Communications Management:
- Candidates who have completed their undergraduate studies at VERN' will be informed of the tuition fees for the graduate study based on the evaluation of their undergraduate grades.
- Candidates who have completed undergraduate studies at other higher education institutions must send a transcript of grades (original or certified copy) or a supplementary study document (diploma supplement) indicating the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of study to the email address upisi@vern.hr for the calculation of the proposed tuition fee.
2. Evaluation of undergraduate grades
For graduate studies in IT Management, Sustainable Tourism Development Management, Entrepreneurship Management, Accounting and Finance, Human Resources Management and Business Communications Management, only the average grade from the undergraduate level of studies is evaluated according to the following model:
Results
Based on the success achieved in the evaluation of grades, the candidate will be determined the amount of tuition fees for the graduate study for the academic year 2024/2025. You can find more detailed information about tuition fee models and grades at the following link
Completion of the enrollment process
The completion of the enrollment process takes place in the following steps:
- Payment of enrollment installment in the amount of EUR 350.00 - non-refundable installment, part of the tuition fee. The payment slip form is visible on the candidate's student portal under "Forms - Example of a completed payment slip".
- Submission of enrollment documents to the Student Office:
- Study contract printed from your student portal Studomatic .
- diploma or graduation certificate
- list of passed exams, grades and grade point average from undergraduate studies
NOTE: VERN's students are not required to bring documentation under points b) and c) because it already exists in the VERN's archives.

Tuition includes
- Administering enrollment and studying at VERN
- Teaching according to the curriculum
- Field training – transportation costs
- Group or individual mentoring and consultations
- Two exams for each course
- Use of the library and multi-media center
- Use of the Institution's information system "EduNet"
- Teaching materials produced by VERN: written summaries and notes from lectures and workshops, scripts, etc.
- CARPE DIEM Program – use of sports facilities during the periods rented by the Institution, visits to theater performances, concerts, etc.
- Defense of the Graduation Thesis if the student approaches the defense of the Graduation Thesis within two years of the end of the last semester
To receive the discount from the table above, it is mandatory to submit all enrollment documentation (including a certificate of completion of undergraduate studies).
Outcomes
After completing the studies, students will be able to :
- Assess the economic effects of tourism in the national economy, critically assess the application of the concept of the mutual economy, and support the application of the principles of the circular economy.
- Analyze global trends and interpret their impact on tourism.
- Argue sociological theories and research approaches in explaining the interactions between guests and hosts, critically assess the impact of policies on tourism development and propose their improvements.
- Determine the specifics of tourist motivation and consumer behavior in tourism with special emphasis on tolerance for individual and cultural differences.
- Organize and connect the instruments of sustainable management strategies, quality control and monitoring processes in the sustainability strategy.
- To propose methods of strategic thinking in practice in tourist destinations and companies with special emphasis on the use of key analytical techniques and tools in evaluating projects in the function of company strategy.
- Formulate a procedure for assessing the risk of financial assets and portfolio risk in tourism companies, managing current assets in tourism companies, and conducting financial analysis.
- Compare the concepts, roles and specificities of marketing management in tourism companies and destinations, and the management of marketing processes.
- Determine priorities in making operational decisions in tourism companies, choosing appropriate solutions and applying tools and methods for business improvement.
- Assess the provisions of regulations in concluding contracts for the operation of tourism companies and propose key elements of the contract.
- Evaluate techniques for innovative solutions in entrepreneurship.
- Critically assess different business models for innovative entrepreneurship and the possibilities of different innovative approaches.
- Assess the role and importance of individual forms of integrated marketing communication in tourism promotion.
- Plan communication on social networks and online marketing.
- Argument the key processes of the human resources function in tourism.
- Propose appropriate solutions related to human resources in tourism companies.
- Develop strategic analytics methods for identifying security risks at the global and regional levels, create risk mitigation plans using crisis communication tools.
- Connect the processes of implementing socially responsible business in tourism with policies and action plans for its application.
- Critically assess the management of tourism development within the national framework in the Republic of Croatia and propose improvements.
- Collect the necessary literature to conduct research and present conclusions necessary for the preparation of a professional diploma thesis.
