Course objectives
The course introduces students to key theoretical concepts and practical implications of crisis situations in organizations and presents the basic types and characteristics of crisis situations, their causes and consequences; cycles and laws. The course breaks down the process of communicating in crises with special reference to the time before the outbreak of a crisis situation. Students are directed to follow trends and open issues as a communication preparation for crisis situations, select strategic responses to the crisis and create crisis communication plans and communication management during the crisis. Attention is paid to the role of new and old media in the crisis and their influence on the course of the crisis, as well as the most common mistakes in the crisis. The course also indicates how public relations can help organizations in long-term strategic planning of business communications with an emphasis on successful prevention and management of crisis situations.
