Course objectives
Introducing and defining the conceptual and terminological framework of transmedia narratology (story, discourse, narrative strategies, storytelling time, storytelling models and narrative subjects, narratology, structuralism, semiotics). Gaining insight into the theoretical and methodological development and changes of the discipline that unites narratology and semiotics. Developing critical transmedia literacy (critical awareness of the constructed nature of all media representations, knowledge of the social, cultural and political contexts in which representations are produced; awareness of the connection between story/discourse and identity formation, questioning the ways and strategies by which the meanings of media representations are constructed, recognizing transmediality as an immanent feature of literature and other media – film, music videos, comics, television series, advertising, video games).
