Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to basic economic and financial knowledge, especially adapted to the specific requirements of journalists who cover economic and financial topics in their work, and who do not have a previous formal economic education. The purpose is also to help students understand numbers and how to use complex numerical data, analyses, trends and graphs to compose simple and convincing text that the reader will understand.
The structure and topics of the lectures are designed to cover those areas of economics and finance that are frequently covered in the media space, and on whose essential understanding the quality of communication in the media often depends. The aim is to acquire basic skills that enable understanding of macroeconomic concepts, markets and the proper use of data from basic financial reports and their transformation into useful information for the needs of better understanding, regardless of the journalistic form in which the written text will be presented.
