Course objectives
Transliteracy (transmedia literacy or metaliteracy) is the ability to read, write and communicate using a range of platforms, tools and media from the entire spectrum of oral and written traditions of human communication to the electronic (telephone, radio, television, comics, photography, film, etc.) and digital age (smartphones, computer games, Internet, social networks, robotics, virtual reality, artificial intelligence, etc.).
The aim of the course is to introduce students to navigation through different media and audience behavior in new social environments in the era of new ways of collecting and sharing information.
The course deals with what it means to be literate in the 21st century and will introduce students to contemporary forms of
literacy (computer, information, media, digital and transmedia). The relationships
between people and technology, especially social networks and new media audiences, will be analyzed. The field of critical analysis of reading, writing, communication and interaction across a range of platforms, tools, media and culture will be expanded, and media and digital literacy will be questioned and developed. Interpreting all forms of human communication and the culture of literacy through time in search of a common space for easier and faster navigation in the new media environment. What is new in relation to media literacy is an attempt to develop an understanding of the contemporary unified media ecology from the convergence of media, and with reflections on upcoming transmedia trends.
Interpretation of the basics of visual literacy (image-text-message), media semiotics (denotative and connotative meaning of the message), issues of ideology (source, purpose and goal of the message) of media messages, representativeness, gender and identity, and mass consumer culture are part of the content. course.
The goal of the assignment is the creation of the "TRANSMEDIA BLOG" project, where the team work of students will investigate the selected TERM and break it down into the dimensions that make it up. Each of the students chooses one of the recognized DIMENSIONS OF THE TERM and, based on the characteristics of the selected dimension, creates an ARTWORK in any FORM and MEDIA, intended for a certain MEDIA AUDIENCE.
The final goal of the task is to connect all the works of the students under the umbrella theme of the selected TERM into one common TRANSMEDIA BLOG, i.e. a website or a Word document that simulates a blog, and to display all the WORKS of the students in a continuous sequence. Under the image of each work, the goal is to write a curatorial TEXT that describes the content of the work and connects it to a certain DIMENSION OF THE CONCEPT on which the work is based.
