Course objectives
Acquainting students with basic theoretical concepts that characterized contemporary sociological thought and contemporary sociological theoretical perspectives (functionalism, conflict theory, symbolic interactionism, feminism, postmodernism) with special emphasis on theories of modernity and modernization as well as postmodernization processes. Special focus will be placed on confronting the crises and paradoxes of modernity and theoretical answers to current questions (society of fatigue and the 'dictate of success', (post)digital age, ideas of development and 'growing up', post-colonial insights).
