Course objectives
In the modern world, the phenomenon of security accompanies numerous forms of human activity, influences them, and transforms them into new forms and patterns. The aim of the course is to describe and present the development of the concept of security, its contents and manifestations in modern society, and its connection with communication as the main tool used to create security perceptions of new challenges and threats. Furthermore, the aim is to recognize a speech act in public communication in which a certain issue is presented as an existential threat, which requires extraordinary measures, which can consequently threaten the stability of a certain society and community. The course will also cover the process in which an issue becomes a security issue, and tools for avoiding and reducing tensions created by the introduction of security concepts into public communication. Modern communication in cyberspace also requires a high level of protection of personal data and privacy, and the aim is to describe and present the possibilities of misuse, as well as threats to privacy.
