Sensors and actuators
ECTS: 5

Total hours: 60
Lecturers
Course objectives
Understand what a mechatronic system is, its complexity and importance in all areas of technology today. Explain and understand basic concepts from the theory and technique of measurement in order to understand the principle of selecting individual elements of a measurement system and critically interpret measurement results (taking into account possible measured uncertainties and measurement errors). Adopt different principles of operation of individual types of sensors used to measure a wide range of physical quantities. Identify the way in which a sensor communicates with the environment and converts a physical quantity into an electrical signal. Apply the acquired knowledge in order to propose a measurement method using sensors on a specific example and perform it. The collected information needs to be directed in an adequate way in order to adequately influence the stability of an individual system, which is helped by actuators as executive organs - it is therefore necessary to understand their basic structure, role and principle of operation within a complex system. Integrate a specific actuator into a system on a practical example so that it reacts to the information it receives from the sensor part of the assembly.
