Course objectives

To acquaint students with the basic theoretical principles of investigative journalism and investigative practice in Croatia and in the world. Point out the methodological differences between descriptive (reporting), interpretive and investigative journalism. Instruct students in the methodology of investigative journalism through familiarization with the elements of a research plan, from choosing a topic and defining a hypothesis to choosing research techniques, forming databases, assessing ethical and technical obstacles, verifying and evaluating data and publishing a research story. Train students for independent creation of concepts and research topics. Explain the differences between investigative journalism in print and electronic media, as well as the influence of new media on investigative journalism. Provide insight into the legal provisions on the obligations of public authorities to access information.

LIFE ON VERN'

Studying at VERN' University is much more than just dry learning of theory. Students further develop theoretical knowledge from lectures through project assignments in collaboration with successful companies, thus developing skills for the business world and building relationships. In addition, they have the opportunity to engage in a variety of extracurricular activities - from playing sports through the VERN' Sport program and absorbing cultural content through the VERN' Culture program, to getting involved in student initiatives, organizing various events, attending seminars and workshops, and visiting the most important conferences and business-educational events.
